William Ricci, MD received his undergraduate degree in biomechanical engineering and his medical degree from Duke University. He completed residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery/New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in New York city. Dr. Ricci spent an additional year studying orthopaedic trauma as a fellow at Tampa General Hospital and the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. He then joined the Washington University in st Louis where he currentkly is the Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery, Director of Clinical Operations and Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship Director.
Dr. Ricci has developed a national and international recognition as a leader in the field of orthopaedics. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles and over 50 book chapters, chaired multiple national and international orthopaedic trauma meetings and courses, was an American-British-Canadian travelling fellow, and is an editor of Rockwood and Green’s Textbook of Fractures in Adults. Dr. Ricci serves on the board of several scholarly journals including the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and has served on the board of directors of major orthopaedic organizations including the American Orthopaedic Association and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
Dr. Ricci specializes in orthopaedic trauma and post-traumatic reconstruction. He focuses his practice on post traumatic problems related to fractures such as non-unions, mal-unions, post-traumatic arthritis and bone infections. He also focuses on the treatment of complex acute fractures such as those around joints (shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle) pelvic and acetabular fractures.
