Timothy E. Kremchek, MD
Material Covered:
A common dilemma facing orthopaedic surgeons is that a number of reproducible techniques and approaches are available for repair of rotator cuff tears, but some techniques are significantly superior to moving patients quickly toward rehabilitation.
As part of his armamentarian, Dr. Kremchek uses Mainstay suture anchors in rotator cuff tear repairs and demonstrates their use in this segment, including placing the sutures in a trough of bone.
Dr. Kremchek also profiles a number of other techniques that help attain reform quickly. These include appropriate patient selection – based on the pathology of the tear, physiologic age of the patient and bone quality – and initial arthroscopic evaluation of the repair, followed by a minute surgical approach that requires less dissection.
The surgical case study is a 17-year-old high school football athlete with a massive tear of the rotator cuff.
Dr. Kremchek concludes the segment with a review of his recent outcomes.
